How to fix a hose from a vacuum cleaner

A vacuum cleaner is indispensable when cleaning in an apartment or house. As a rule, the main body of the device, including the electric motor, serves for a long time. Often, plastic parts of the periphery fail. Often this happens with a hose, without which the device completely loses its usability.

It remains only to buy a new device, but it is quite expensive and impractical, since the old vacuum cleaner is generally operational, or try to find a suitable hose, which is not always easy and fast, and also not free. How to deal with the situation in a different way, namely, to repair a damaged hose?

Before proceeding with the repair, it is necessary, as always, to understand the design. Most hoses of modern vacuum cleaners are polypropylene corrugated pipes with elasticity, so that they can stretch and contract in a small range. The length of the sleeve varies about one and a half meters.

On both sides, the hose is terminated with plastic pipes. An extension-holder of the working brush is mounted on one of the nozzles. The second nozzle is a coupling that is inserted into the body of the vacuum cleaner.

REFERENCE! As a rule, a violation of the integrity of the surface of the corrugation occurs near the junction with plastic endings. Even a slight damage is enough to pull the vacuum cleaner and suction power significantly weakened.

The appliance hose may break for several reasons:

  • kinking or kinking during harvesting or storage;
  • excessive stretching;
  • attempts to pull or carry the appliance by the hose;
  • contact with sharp edges of objects;
  • loss of elasticity due to storage at low temperatures.

A natural reason for a hose to break is also its aging and wear.

There are several ways to repair hoses.

Simple cut repair

This method is suitable if a problem occurs at the junction of the corrugated pipe with a plastic end. For repairs from tools you will need a well-sharpened knife or hacksaw for metal. What do we have to do? Carefully cut the sleeve, leaving the damaged area on the pipe side, remove it by loosening and stripping the plastic tip. Then treat it from the inside with sealant and carefully screw the corrugation along the thread from the side of the cut line.

Bandage overlay

If in the process of inaccurate operation on the hose large damage has occurred: cuts, punctures, etc. - it is appropriate to repair using the overhead bandage. It is used when the sleeve is damaged in the middle (at some distance from the plastic ends).

The sequence of actions is as follows. To begin with, as in the first method, it is necessary to carefully cut the sleeve, only now on both sides, leaving the damaged area in the middle. A rubber camera from a bicycle about 10 centimeters long will be used as a brace. Degrease the cut ends, completely tighten the chamber on one of them so that a small section of the hose peeks out from under it. Apply a quick-acting adhesive (such as Super-Moment adhesive) to both ends of the hose, join them and pull the rubber “bandage” in the opposite direction to adhere to each piece of corrugated tube. The joint should be exactly in the middle.

Thermal Repair

For this method, you will need a special industrial dryer and heat shrink tubing. Advantages of this approach: high quality connections without reducing hose lengths. This repair method is universal in terms of the location of damage to the hose.

The sequence of steps is as follows:

  • choose a suitable heat shrink tube;
  • disconnect one of the plastic tips;
  • put on the heat shrink tube through the free end of the corrugation;
  • install the tube at the place of damage and heat the heat shrink evenly with a hairdryer.

Repairing Corrugations with Inner Conductors

If the model of the vacuum cleaner involves adjusting the power on the handle of the working nozzle, then wires are mounted in the hose that provide a signal from the regulator to the motor. In this case, the repair of the hose is complicated by additional steps. The complete repair manual is as follows:

  1. It is necessary to disassemble the fixture of the holder, freeing the contacts of the wires.
  2. Release the damaged end of the sleeve from the plastic.
  3. Cut damaged corrugation without touching conductive wires.
  4. At the right distance, re-solder the contacts for the fasteners.
  5. Assemble holder housing.

How to temporarily restore a vacuum cleaner hose

If you need to finish cleaning at any cost, and damage to the air intake sleeve does not allow this, you can resort to a temporary restoration of its performance.Damage such as a puncture or crack can be repaired with insulation tape or tape. The repair will not take much time, but such an emergency measure will also not last long.
