How to connect a temperature controller to an infrared heater

Infrared heaters are quite popular today. There are several varieties of such heaters, which are distinguished by price, features of operation and installation method. As for the principle of work, it is almost the same for everyone. The advantage of choosing an infrared heater is the ability to significantly save energy. Such a heater can be controlled if a thermostat is connected.

In general, a thermostat or thermostat is a device due to which it is possible to periodically measure the amount of heat in the room, the air temperature, and also regulate the operation of the heating device. If we explain it more clearly, when the temperature is optimal for the room, the heater temporarily stops the work and resumes it only when the temperature starts to drop much.

Types of temperature controllers

To date, two types of temperature controllers are known:

  • Mechanical. The device looks like a small plastic box. On the outside there is a switch that is usually round in shape, which allows you to adjust the temperature in the room;
  • Electronic. These devices have much more control capabilities, and they are also equipped with additional functions. This type of heater is considered more popular and modern.

Important! A mechanical type of thermostat is suitable if anyone is present at home all the time. It is not recommended to leave the device turned on if there is no one nearby who can control its operation.

Connection of a temperature regulator to an infrared heater

Before proceeding with the installation of the heater, first you need to determine the installation location of the equipment. It is very important to choose the right place to ensure the most safe use of the device and its smooth operation. Some tips will help in this:

Tip 1. Do not place the device where humidity is high. This is extremely unsafe especially for electric type thermostats.

Tip 2. Exposure to sunlight will negatively affect the operation of the device, so it’s best to select a place hidden from the sun. The fact is that, being in the sun, they will begin to show inaccurate data, which will negatively affect the heating process.

Once the place has been selected, you can proceed to the preparation of all the necessary tools and directly to the installation itself.

Necessary materials and tools

One of the main tools required is a tape measure - it will allow you to measure the required distance from the ceiling to the selected installation location of the device. In addition, it is worth stocking up on a building level in order to carry out installation as smoothly as possible.

Also, during the installation process, you will need such tools and materials as:

  • drill or drill;
  • hammer drill;
  • dowel;
  • bracket.

Thanks to all these devices you can carry out the installation of equipment.

Mounting Features

During the installation of the heater, it is worth considering some features, and one of these features is also the mounting of the thermostat. You can consider the process of installing and connecting a temperature controller using the example of a Balu thermostat.

In order for the device to cope with all the functions assigned to it, you must first familiarize yourself with the installation rules, and then perform it as correctly as possible. Among the basic rules that you need to pay attention to are:

  1. The thermostat can only be installed 1.5 meters from the floor.
  2. Before mounting the device, a layer of insulation material must be placed under it.
  3. In no case should the thermostat be mounted next to furniture or behind curtains.

The last point is caused by the fact that such an arrangement will be extremely inconvenient, as well as dangerous due to the lack of air that would cool the operation of the device.

Thermostat wiring diagram

There are several schemes that allow you to connect the thermostat to an infrared heater.

The first - it is the simplest - through the use of single instances of the thermostat and heater. Thanks to this, you can get the most lightweight connection scheme: the machine will have two pairs of wires, one of which will need to be brought to the thermostat, and the other directly to the heating device. It is worth considering that each pair of wires has a different purpose, and all these wires must be connected correctly.

Another way will be a little more complicated than the first, but it will also allow you to connect yourself. The essence of this method is to connect in parallel. This allows you to turn on two whole heaters and use only one thermostat on them.

Finally, the most difficult way is to use one thermostat for several heating appliances at once. Due to this, such a connection is more popular. To carry out the process, you will need a magnetic starter, as well as an individually designed circuit. Therefore, it is better to turn to professionals for help.

However, considering any installation scheme for an infrared heater and thermostat, it is worth paying attention to a few more nuances:

  1. It is possible to install control devices in the room where there are wall or ceiling heating appliances. This will allow you to take the measuring device directly into the room and carry out installation at the most suitable place.
  2. Both mortise and overhead models of devices that can be used to regulate heat supply can be sold. Therefore, if you do not want to specifically drill additional holes, then you can use the second option of such devices.

Important! Calculation of the circuit is also recommended to ensure maximum safety of using the thermostat. Any malfunction in the system or any errors resulting from design and installation errors can lead to sad consequences.

Thanks to infrared heaters, you can significantly save on electricity, and thermostats or thermostats that come with them will help to cope with it. Regardless of the price of these devices, type or form, they are all the same, so do not worry if you do not have enough money for a more expensive option.
