Creaks office chair

During operation, the office chair may make an unpleasant creak. It makes it difficult to concentrate or just annoying. There are several sources of unpleasant sounds. All problems can be fixed independently by finding the sound source and doing the necessary work.

Why creaks office chair

The reasons why an office chair can creak are several:

  1. A creak is created by friction of metal elements on a part made of plywood. Most likely, the problem is with the mounts. Either the screws loosened, or they were installed incorrectly in the manufacture of the chair.
  2. The creak source may be a backrest and seat connection. It is made of metal, and is assembled in production. The problem is unlikely to be due to improper assembly, and metal grease can eliminate unpleasant sounds.
  3. Another source of creaking is the junction of the cross and the gas lift. It is necessary to check the bearing and lubricate it if it is a source. This problem is less common than others.
  4. Squeaks may appear while the wheels are moving. Most likely, they are not mounted correctly.

The most common causes of squeaking are as follows:

  1. Incorrect or long-term operation (lubrication disappears with time, and parts can be damaged).
  2. Poor materials were used to assemble the chair.
  3. Errors were made during the assembly process.

Attention! In order for the chair to serve longer, it is necessary to use it for its intended purpose. Do not twist it or ride it unnecessarily.

How to get rid of a creak

If there are unpleasant sounds during operation of the chair, you need to find their source. After determining the epicenter of sound, you must do the following:

  1. If the source of the creak is a backrest or a seat, you need to separate this part from others. If the reason is sitting, first remove the back. The mechanism that connects these parts of the stool is called permanent contact. Mounting the fixing screws into it is easy to remove even without the use of tools. Now turn the chair over and unscrew the screws that connect the metal insert and plywood. After that, a plastic cover will remain. We remove it. Now you can see the plywood completely. At its edges are fastenings for pens. Most often uses 6 screws as fasteners. They need to be unscrewed. Now we assemble the construction in reverse order. Particular attention should be paid to screwing fasteners.
  2. If the creak is connected directly with the permanent contact, you need to buy a lubricant for the metal. It is necessary to unscrew the screw fasteners, and apply a smear to the mechanism. The ideal option would be WD-40 grease or any similar to it.
  3. If the source of the squeak is at the junction of the gas elevator and the cross, the same lubricant will help us.

Attention! If the reason for the sounds is the back, then the work will be even simpler. To begin with, the permanent contact fasteners are unscrewed. In the lower part of the backrest plastic we are looking for screws or screws. We twist them. In the central part we will find a part that regulates flexibility. It is necessary to tighten the screws that are there. Assemble the structure in reverse order.

Operational errors leading to squeaking

There are a number of operational errors that can lead to unpleasant sounds or damage to the chair:

  1. All metal parts of the chair should be regularly lubricated with grease. It disappears with time, and the creak appears from the thorns of details.
  2. Periodically, all parts of the chair must be disassembled to remove dust accumulated inside. It absorbs grease, and can cause damage to parts.
  3. Improper use of the chair. Children can ride it like a carousel. This may cause damage to the wheels.
  4. Strong load on the back. Try not to use force, stretching back, and leaning on the back, as there is a risk of damage to the permanent contact.

Important! Protect your chair from water (especially metal parts and mounts) and from mechanical damage.

Most often, squeaks create metal parts of the chair due to swinging on it. Therefore, when they occur, you need to check the places where the mounts and other metal parts are located.
