How to use a sewing machine

The main problem associated with inherited or used sewing machines is the lack of an instruction manual. After all, with its help it is much easier to understand "what's what." But even if there is no useful booklet, learning to use the acquisition is easy.

Installation and tuning of the sewing machine before starting work

After delivery and unpacking of the device, it is necessary to choose the optimal place for its placement. It is important to observe several conditions, the most important of which is convenience. Whether it is a desk or a bed, it is advisable to place them closer to the window - this is necessary to ensure normal lighting in the daytime. It is important to keep about 0.5 m of space free from other interior items.

The machine is placed so that the needle is on the left side. Then a pedal is connected to it, which is placed in a place convenient for the user. Before connecting to the network, you should familiarize yourself with the control panel of the machine:

  • start button;
  • stitch pitch adjuster;
  • stitch switch.

After studying these elements, you need to find:

  • reel seat - pin on the top or side panel;
  • thread take-up - a metal strap with an eye;
  • needle holder screw;
  • foot and lever for adjusting its position;
  • needle plate - it is necessary to study the removal and reinstallation system;
  • bobbin holder - a metal cap with a movable eye, into which the bobbin is inserted.

After it was possible to find all of the above elements, you should also find the mechanism for winding the thread on the bobbin. It is usually located near the reel seat pin.

Insert the needle

After studying the device of the sewing machine, you can begin preparations for work. And the first step is to install the needle. To do this, inspect its upper wide part - the bulb. For household machines, this element is performed with a groove - flat. To install the needle correctly, you must:

  • turn the handwheel (wheel on the right side of the case) to raise the needle holder;
  • insert the needle bulb into the connector - depending on the model, the flat can be directed to the left or in the direction opposite to the user;
  • secure by tightening the needle clamp screw.

IMPORTANT! The result of improper needle installation is the absence of loops and, as a result, skipped stitches in the stitch.

Set the coil

The minimum required for the operation of any household sewing machine is 2 threads. Upper - a coil mounted on the pin of the holder. But the bottom must first be wound on a bobbin. To do this, you will need:

  • install the coil on the pin of the holder;
  • pull the thread through the thread guide;
  • pass it through the disk tensioner;
  • make several turns around the bobbin, which is then installed on the winder (a small pin in the winding mechanism);
  • move the retainer resembling a curved plate to the extreme position - until it clicks;
  • depending on the machine’s device, press the pedal or special button, after which the winding of the thread begins.

ATTENTION! Do not fill the bobbin to the eyeballs. It is desirable that its sides slightly protrude above the thread. This will facilitate the further process of preparing the sewing machine for work.

Thread the thread

From the top, everything is quite simple. The free end is guided through the thread guide, disk tensioner, thread take-up and is inserted into the eye of the needle. On most modern models, the procedure is indicated by small numbered arrows on the case.

To refill the bottom, just install the bobbin in the bobbin holder cap and insert it into the shuttle assembly. In this case, stretch about 3-5 cm of the thread. Then the needle plate is installed. Then, with the help of the flywheel, the needle is lowered, grabs the thread and brings it out.

Learning to sew on a sewing machine

After preparing your assistant for work, it is necessary to put it on idle. Then, by depressing the control pedal, the machine starts up. An increase in pressure on the pedal leads to faster sewing, a decrease to slowdown. After removing the foot from the pedal, the machine should stop.

We try to make stitches

To do this, you need a few small sections of fabric. First, with the help of the controller, the machine is set to direct stitching mode. Then the half-folded section is brought under the raised foot, which should then be lowered. After which the machine is launched.

ATTENTION! During operation, the fabric cannot be pulled - its progress is regulated by a gear. It is only necessary to control the direction of movement of the material (left hand) and the exact relative position of the layers (right).

Having dealt with a straight line, you can begin to master more complex forms. To do this, various figures are drawn with chalk on the fabric, the contours of which should be passed with a seam.

ATTENTION! A smooth turn is carried out at low speed. A right or acute angle is formed after the machine stops completely with the needle lowered to the lower position.

How to use a mini sewing machine

Miniature versions of faithful helpers are compact, easy to operate and easy to thread. To get started, you must:

  • pass a single working thread through the thread guide;
  • tensioner;
  • another guide loop (inside, near the needle);
  • insert it into the eye of the needle;
  • set the stitch length.

After that, the original tool is ready for minor repair of clothing or fastening of a loose seam.

General rules for the operation of manual sewing machines

Before starting work, remove all fastening pins from the product that could lead to needle breakage. During operation, do not put your fingers to the needle or try to straighten the thread. At the end of work, raise the clamping foot. This is a necessary safety measure, which will help protect against injuries if the device is accidentally pressed.
