Laying a laminate diagonally - how to do it right

Laying flooring is a responsible process that will require responsibility, patience and thorough preparation from a person. This is especially true for laminate flooring if a diagonal laying method is chosen. This type of arrangement of lamellas has become very popular recently, as it is able to transform the room beyond recognition. If you don’t know how to diagonally lay the lamellas, the methods for arranging the coating and recommendations for high-quality installation are described below.

What are the castles

All locking elements in the slats have a single system - a groove-spike, but can differ in the profile system. There are 8 types of locks in total, but the most common and easiest to use are 3:

Lock - the simplest option, the fixation of which is caused by a kind of click when horizontally pressing the tenon into the groove. so that the styling is high-quality and durable, the extreme canvas is hammered with a mallet. Lamels with such a lock are almost impossible

The coating can be dismantled and reassembled up to 4 times.
T-LOCK - developed by Tarkett, this is a combination of two lock elements. When laying, a durable reliable coating is obtained, which can be disassembled and assembled several times, while the locks remain intact.

In addition, at the moment, you can find locks on the laminate with plastic and aluminum elements, which not only firmly adhere the trims, but also allows you to assemble and disassemble the floor covering an unlimited number of times.

Styling methods

At the moment, there are two ways of diagonal placement of slats on the floor surface:

from the center - the canvas is mounted in the direction of two opposite sides;
from the corner.

If the work is done by one person, then it is better to choose the second option - there is an assistant, you can mount the laminate in any of the above ways. It is especially convenient to lay the slats in two directions from the center: one person to one corner, the other to the opposite.

Advice! If the installation of a laminate floor is new for you, it is best to use direct laying of the slats. So to lay or lay the laminate boards with your own hands correctly will be much easier. In this case, you do not need to accurately measure the angles and make the appropriate cuts - everything is quite simple.

But, if nevertheless a decision has been made to perform diagonal styling, take this process with all responsibility and adhere to certain instructions, there is also a scheme.

Before you start laying, look at some expert advice on this:

Do not give preference to inexpensive material - the lamellas will wear out very quickly and irreparable defects will appear;
Before laying the laminate on the surface, bring it into the room where it will be constantly and leave for a day. The material must adapt to room temperature:
installation of the coating is carried out only in a dry, heated room.

Important! Despite the fact that the material is water-repellent, one should not forget that the planks can swell and deform due to increased humidity - the coating will turn out to be uneven and unpresentable.

Rules and recommendations for diagonal installation

In order for diagonal laying of lamellas to be performed efficiently, you need to adhere to the recommendations of specialists:

you need to pour the strips strictly observing the angle chosen for work. The most optimal will be the creation of a template, according to which later material will be cut. The process is best done with the tool you are used to;
if an electric jigsaw is used during operation, then it is set to maximum speed so that there are no chips or burrs on the lamellas - the desired smooth cut;
the grinder is also well suited for cutting, if you install a special disk on it in laminate or iron.

If you follow these recommendations, the surface will be flat and neat.

Laying from a corner in 2 directions

Before starting installation, remove debris and dust from the plane. Then lay the substrate under the laminate. When using sheet material, it is stitched in a staggered manner with a spread of seams, and the layers are fastened with special metallized tape.

There are two options for arranging floor, diagonal flooring under the laminate, which are worth considering in detail:

Laying is carried out from the far corner towards the exit. The first element is the angle that is cut from the lamella at an angle of 45 degrees. The bar is cut from two sides. Next are the trapezoidal elements, with a sawn side at the same angle.
Start the process from the middle of the room, along a diagonal line that should be drawn between opposite corners. The longest in this situation will be the first row.

Important! Do not forget about the technological gap - the distance from the walls and heating pipes is 1 cm. In order to make it even, use lamella trimmings or special wedges.

The most common and simplest way is styling from the corner, while long elements are best placed in the direction of the window. Each subsequent row begins with an element similar to a trapezoid, in which the sides of the top and bottom are equal.

The algorithm of actions is as follows:

make an accurate measurement taking into account the technological indentation from the wall;
after the element size is determined by tape measure, using the template or building corner, marking of the bar is performed, along which the edges are cut;
if there are more than 1 lamella in a row, then a cut is made on the first bar on the left in the shape of a triangle;
first, the row is completely assembled on the floor, and only then is it installed in the groove of the previous one and tapped. It is important that the locks snap into place. For greater strength, they can be coated with a special sealant;
as soon as all large rows are laid, and the master approached the opposite corner, you should change the direction of the cut lamellas. But at the same time, the laying principle itself does not change;
the last is a small triangle mounted in a corner - as at the very beginning of the installation.

Laying from the middle of the room on both sides, slightly different in principle of operation:

mark up the room. To do this, you can draw a diagonal from one corner to another or stretch a construction twine, securing it with screws;
for the correct arrangement of the cutting angle, it should be well measured. To do this, it is enough to determine the distance from the extended rope to the wall;
cut the lamella and lay the long side on the diagonal - do not forget about the gap;
then continue laying to the opposite angle, which is formed from the trimmed bar according to previously defined parameters;
then they are laid on both sides, while all the joints are staggered. This is necessary to avoid rapid deformation of the floor covering from loads.

Advice! First connect the lamellas from the front side. Once the row is completely ready, it is attached to the previous one from the long side.

If the work is performed in pairs, then the process will not be difficult. When assembling a long row, the assistant supports the lamellas, and the master latches them into the locks. One person can also lay diagonally, but a special load will have to be applied, which will press the lamellas already installed in the locking device.
