Coating stairs

Most summer houses and private houses have staircases that, for ease of use, are sheathed with flooring, because smooth steps can be dangerous. Carpet is considered the most affordable and beautiful flooring.

What carpet is suitable for finishing the stairs: photo

When choosing a floor covering, special attention should be paid to the following aspects:

  • the carpet should be designed specifically for stairs and easily laid on any surface;
  • the material should not slip and contain wool, because because of it it will be difficult to wash the carpet from dirt - it is better to opt for material made of polypropylene and polyamide fibers, since they are easy to clean;
  • it is necessary that the carpet absorbs sound, does not let the cold in and protects the stairs from mechanical defects during operation;
  • matter must have aesthetic appeal.

How to calculate the right amount of cover for the stairs

To make the correct calculation of the flooring, you first need to measure the highest step, and then its height, adding 4 cm to this indicator and calculate for each step - all the data should be added together. If the staircase is spiral, then the calculation is done along the outer edge, since it is he who has a large size. The calculation is carried out from the beginning of the first step to its riser.

How to sheathe a staircase with carpet

Before proceeding with the sheathing of the stairs by flooring, it is necessary:

  • eliminate irregularities, if any (type of elimination of irregularities depends on the material the staircase is made of);
  • the cranked and steps that creak should be strengthened.

ATTENTION!The temperature in the room where repairs are carried out should be at least 16 degrees. And the floor covering should be laid out on the floor 24 hours before the coating so that it does not wrinkle after installation.

Using the rods

When using rods, to begin with, the flooring should not be spread over the entire width of the steps. You should also pre-attach special rings for the rods. The carpet is covered with a direct canvas, fixing it on the steps with rods.

IMPORTANT! When sheathing in this way, the material can be easily removed and cleaned.

With straps

Before sheathing, it is necessary to prepare slats with spikes from the timber, for which then the material will cling, like hooks. Spikes are made of cloves arranged in two rows. Their points will go out.

ATTENTION! Of course, the bars can be glued with glue, but only if the stairs are level. With the uneven surface of the steps it is better to nail them.

Procedure:

  1. On the side of each step, along the lower part of the riser, bars with spikes should be nailed. Further, at the junction of the riser with the protrusion, it is necessary to attach block corners with spikes.
  2. After nailing the bars, a felt substrate should be put along the entire length of the structure, which is attached using brackets. They should press the flooring against the ledges of the stairs.
  3. In the slots between the slats, the material must be pulled using a chisel. Then knock them in places where the bars are.
  4. So that the carpet does not wrinkle after sheathing, it makes the same wedge-shaped cutouts in the tucked edge.
  5. In the place where the carpet material is on the wall, with the help of a cutting tool, all excess material is cut along the fold line.
  6. Then the chisel edge is pressed to the steps.
  7. At the last approach, the end of the material is clamped by a rail curved in the form of V, which is then screwed to the floor and all edges are closed with a metal bar.

Using glue

If you decide to use this method, then before covering the steps, you need to clean and wash, and only after that proceed with the main work:

  1. Mix glue and solvent first. Stir well. Next, apply this mixture with a spatula on the steps.
  2. Apply a pre-prepared strip of carpet on the glue layer, press it and iron it with a spatula with a rubber tip.
  3. Repeat the same steps with the risers of the design.
  4. After the glue layer has completely dried, it is necessary to remove the excess that spoils the appearance.

Features of laying carpet on spiral staircases

When covering the spiral staircase floors, some points should be taken into account:

  1. Carpeting is carried out with parts cut and cut for each individual protrusion of the structure.
  2. The carpet must be cut into separate parts, the dimensions of which should be larger than the size of the riser and tread together.

Carpet linings on steps

In order to originally sheathe the steps, it is possible to make overlays for each of them from the carpet. Similar details have the following advantages:

  • when sheathing, this method is easy and simple;
  • such overlays have an original look;
  • You can use flooring in different tones;
  • they do not allow the stairs to deteriorate quickly during operation.

Lining can be given any shape and color that will suit the surrounding interior.
