Parquet board restoration

Parquet board is a fairly popular material, which is often used as a floor covering. She fell in love with customers for excellent technical specifications, as well as attractive appearance. This is a great option for both an apartment and a private house.

But over time, cracks can form on the coating, and in general, the appearance is much worse. What to do in this situation? Is it possible to deal with the problem on my own without resorting to the help of specialists? You will learn about all this in this article.

Causes of damage to the floorboard

Please note that the causes of damage can be different. In the broadest sense, first of all, they are divided into those that arise over time and are not subject to man - after a long operation, any coating can lose its original properties. But there are those that are caused by the mistakes of the owner himself - improper care, too heavy loads on the floor, which in principle can not withstand them, can lead to cracks.

IMPORTANT! Before acquiring and laying this or that covering, be sure to study all its features. It is this that will allow avoiding such unpleasant situations when in a few years the floor becomes ugly and fragile. Check all information with the seller in the store.

Damage can also result from increased humidity in the room, the appearance of insects or mold inside.

Do-it-yourself repair of small gaps and cracks in the floorboard

Repairing minor damage is a simple process, so any owner of a parquet board will cope with it. Over time, the varnish can wear out, which leads to scratches and gaps. You can deal with this in this way:

  1. Remove the skirting board, and then walk along the board with a vacuum cleaner.
  2. Fill all damage with special putty, which can be purchased at a specialized store. Choose the option that will best suit the tone of the floor so that the use of the mixture is not noticeable. There is also a special putty, which is applied to the chips in a molten state, and after solidification it becomes very strong and reliable.
  3. Sand the surface to perfect condition.
  4. The final stage: apply varnish or oil, which will perform a protective function.

Repair will take some time, but as a result you will get the perfect floor, which for a few more years will please with its appearance and durability.

Parquet restoration with die replacement and squeak elimination

More difficult is the repair with the replacement of the dies and the elimination of squeaking. To do this, you need a looping and grinding machine, but after work, the floor will look like new.

All of these tools are easy to rent. After that, you can get to work.

First, decide which dies you need to replace. Then remove them - it is better to break from the center point to the edges, but in no case do not insert a chisel into the gaps between them. So you can easily damage the locks with which they are connected. Then glue the new parts of the parquet onto the vacant space with glue. Leave it to dry.

To remove the squeak, you need to drill a small hole in the board and pour some glue under it with a syringe. Then put something heavy on the top - the board will again stick to the surface and the creak will disappear.

After that, you need to walk on the surface with a looping machine. It is more expedient to fill all small chips with putty. Then grind, and then cover the parquet with varnish or special oil.

Parquet coating with colored oil

If you decide to change the interior of the room or the board was suddenly the wrong color, do not rush to replace the floor. It is entirely possible to change only the color of the coating on its own. To do this, you need to paint it with colored oil.

The first step is to thoroughly polish the floor. After the first time, inspect the entire surface and fill in any cracks, if any. Then check the uniformity of the parquet. Then, grinding must be repeated until the ideal coating condition is achieved.

If necessary, apply a primer - it may be needed if the wood species of which the parquet board is made does not absorb paint uniformly. After that, you can get to work. Colored oil is best applied with a fine-nap roller.

IMPORTANT! Dry the floor thoroughly before painting, so that the paint absorbs better and the color is uniform.

Please note that the next coat can only be applied after 20 hours.

Mixtures for restoration work at home

Many are interested in the question of how to cook and mix mixtures correctly at home. There is nothing complicated about this - you just need to follow the step-by-step instructions, and also carefully observe all the proportions.

It is important to understand that the final result of the repair depends on the quality of the mixture for restoration.

In order to prepare a paper putty, you will not need so many improvised tools. First, cut the newspaper into small pieces and fill them with water. Leave for a while, for example, at night, and squeeze out the resulting mass thoroughly.

After that, prepare a paste and several times pass it through cheesecloth. Then add wood glue to it. This mass must be mixed with paper, after which it can be used as a putty for parquet slots.

For minor scratches, another option is also suitable - for certain, after grinding, you have a certain amount of sawdust left. Mix them with varnish or resin in a ratio of 1: 4. Then mix until the whole mass is sufficiently viscous.

After that, apply it to the cracks. Do not forget to remove the excess with a spatula so that nothing spoils the appearance of the coating. After the mixture has dried, thorough grinding will be required.

Now you know how to independently restore the floorboard and get rid of damage to the surface. This will not require much time and additional funds, but your floor will look just as good, as if it was laid just a few days ago.
