DIY keyboard

Many PC users experience some inconvenience when typing or in games where you need a quick reaction with a standard laptop or computer keyboard. Many stores sell modern devices that are suitable for gamers at a much higher cost. But not everyone has the opportunity to purchase modern technology. To save a lot of money, you can build a keyboard that is convenient for your own use.

Materials and Tools

To assemble the device you do not need to buy expensive parts, just use the old keyboard. To build, you must have:

  • The keyboard part;
  • Printed circuit board;
  • Stabilizers;
  • Plastic case;
  • Sockets for connecting a USB cable;
  • Wires.

You will also need a screwdriver, a soldering iron, a glue gun, a voltage tester.

Note! If you do not have a device to check for voltage, then you can take ordinary charging for a smartphone and connect two wires to it.

DIY keyboard: step by step

We take a printed circuit board, it can be taken from the old device. We check its performance. Testing occurs by shorting with a contact. Next, we check the registration of button presses. The Elite Keyboards program or similar can help with this. Modifiers are highlighted in it.

Important! Before assembly, you should consider the optimal layout of the keys.

Next, you need to stabilize the device, for this purpose you can use Cherry stabilizers. Then set the switches in the prepared plates, which we will use for fastening. After that, insert the contacts into the printed circuit board. And solder everything with a soldering iron. We check whether the buttons sit well in their places, the plates in the places for fastening. If they sit too loose, this will lead to loosening, and this subsequently leads to overheating of the contacts.

After connecting to a PC, the device must be programmed. To do this, you need the following software:

  • Any layout editor;
  • Download button layout to the keyboard;
  • Drivers

Making a device convenient for you is not very difficult and expensive. To assemble it, you need to devote only one evening to this matter, it is also not very difficult to program the layout. Just a few hours of hard work and your ideal and easy-to-use device is ready to use.
