How to configure a joystick on a laptop

There are times when a joystick needs to be connected to a laptop to play a game. But if you just connect the gamepad, it will not work, because you need to configure and install the necessary drivers. Let's find out what needs to be done.

How to make a connection

Connection consists of three stages:

1. Connect the device to a laptop.
2. Driver Installation
3. Gamepad customization.

Connection

The joystick is connected as follows:

1. We take the device out of the package.
2. Unwind the wires.
3. We connect the joystick plug to the laptop’s USB connector.

If the joystick is wireless, you must turn on the bluetooth and put the receiver.

Drivers

When connecting a gamepad, driver installation should start automatically. This usually happens on versions of Windows 7 and above. But if we use the Windows XP system, or the automatic installation did not work for other reasons, the driver can be installed from disk (comes with a gamepad) or downloaded from the Internet.

A window appears on the laptop, you just need to click the "Next", "Install" and "Finish" buttons. Reboot the computer.

Customization

You can start the setup. We do the following:

1. Open the "Start".
2. We go to the "Control Panel".
3. We select the section "Devices and Printers".
4. We are looking for the name "Joyped" or "Joystick." Double click on its icon.
5. A window opens with a menu where device keys will be assigned.
6. Using the keyboard, next to the name of a specific button, we need to set what action a certain gamepad key will perform.
7. After finishing, click the “Save” button.
8. Remember that some device models provide the ability to perform several functions at once by pressing a single key. For example, we bought a football simulator and a shooter. In order not to constantly change the functions of the buttons, you can simply change the finished set and confirm the changes.
9. We start the game to check the functionality of the keys.

Reconfiguring the joystick on a laptop is very simple. We only need to perform as many actions in the Control Panel. No additional drivers or programs are needed. After a successful installation, you can start the game and play.
