How to turn on Bluetooth on a laptop

Bluetooth is perhaps the most convenient way to wirelessly transfer data. Especially if there is no possibility to go online. And besides sending files in this way, you can connect the necessary devices to the laptop (mouse, speakers, etc.). Things are going well - it remains to figure out how to use this magic function?

First you need to make sure your laptop supports bluetooth. For this purpose, you can read the documentation attached to the device, or in the absence thereof, refer to the official support site.

Important! Sometimes manufacturers put Wi-Fi and Bluetooth modules in one device. In this case, if it fails, it is impossible to establish a connection through any of the mentioned channels.

If the adapter is OK, then you should understand which operating system is installed on your laptop. Do you know Then go straight to the desired item!

If your OS is Windows 7.The first step is always to launch the Control Panel. Further connection process can occur in two ways.

Method 1:

  • clicking the left mouse button to open the "Network and Sharing Center";
  • then click on "Change adapter settings" (located in the lower left list);
  • right-click "Bluetooth network connection", then - "Properties";
  • in the window that opens, left-click on the "Bluetooth" and activate the ability to transfer the same switch.

Method 2:

  • left-click on "Devices and Printers";
  • right-click - "Bluetooth Adapter", and in the drop-down list - "Bluetooth Settings";
  • set the parameters on your own.

Also, Windows 7 provides an even easier way to activate a wireless network. In the system tray (lower right corner) it is enough to find the Bluetooth icon and, by clicking on it with the right mouse button, click "On" or "On".

If your OS is Windows 8.In Windows 8, it's still easier than at 7. You need to go to the sidebar (on the keyboard, press the "Win" + "C" keys). Click the gear icon ("Settings") there, then select "Bluetooth" and move the slider responsible for its activation to "On".

Important! Simply turning on wireless data transfer is not enough. To work correctly, you must also add the mating device to the list of allowed.

If your OS is Windows 10.This version takes into account all the problems of the previous ones: there is both an available control panel and a side panel.

The easiest way to turn on the bluetooth is by pressing the side panel (located in the lower right corner). Then you just need to click on "Bluetooth", thereby activating it.

You can also use the path: "Start" - "Settings" - "Devices" - "Bluetooth and other devices" - the slider is in the "On" position. Or use methods identical to those described in section "Windows 7".

Why doesn't Bluetooth turn on?

Unfortunately (especially in the latest operating systems), due to incorrect computer settings, improperly installed drivers and some similar reasons, you may encounter a problem when the bluetooth on your computer is not working.

All the instructions discussed above have been successfully implemented, but the technology is still not active? We understand what else can be done in this situation.

Problems with bluetooth may be due to the fact that the adapter is physically disconnected or the software device is set as "inactive". To check the presence of an active adapter, just open the "Device Manager":

  • on the keyboard simultaneously press "Win" and "R";
  • in the line of the Run window that opens, type "devmgmt.msc" and press the "OK" key;
  • in the opened window in the list find "Bluetooth".

If there is a yellow exclamation mark next to the device name, the problem is installing the necessary drivers. As a rule, after a failure during the update, you may find that bluetooth has stopped working. It’s better to get the necessary drivers from the official support site of your laptop model (or the closest one). In this case, it is worthwhile to clarify the version of the OS and the used bit depth.

If there is an arrow down next to the name in the dispatcher, then the device is simply disabled at the moment. To enable it, simply click on the line with the name of the right mouse button and in the opened window select "Enable".

To check the availability of the adapter in BIOS:

  • When you turn on the computer go to the BIOS.
  • Open the Advanced tab (or System Configuration).
  • Check the status of all items where there is "Bluetooth", "Wireless" or "WLAN". Opposite each such item set the value "Enabled".

If, however, the issues addressed are all in order, but the data transmission device is still not active, you can check the "Windows Services Management Tool". To open the window of this tool you need:

On the keyboard, simultaneously press "Win" and "R". In the Run window that opens, type in “services.msc” and press the “Ok” key.

The Services window opens. Here you need to find the Bluetooth support service and, as of its status, make sure that it is functioning.

Important! Sometimes the problem can be solved in an even simpler way: check whether the "In-plane" mode is turned off.

Perhaps, by chance, a key was pressed on the keyboard that activates this function. If the flight mode is disabled, but the bluetooth is still not active, check its status in the "Wireless devices" section ("Start" - "Settings" - "Network and Internet" - "Airplane mode"), or: "Settings" - " Devices "-" Bluetooth.

In addition, for correct pairing, you need to check that the device you are in is within range of the bluetooth. After all, if the plug-in gadget is located at a distance greater than that specified in the documentation, the computer will not be able to "see" it. You also need to make sure that there is no device connected to the USB 3.0 port nearby. Unshielded USB devices can sometimes interfere with bluetooth connections.

Also, it would not be superfluous to see that the property "Allow device connection" is active in the settings. To check go to the "Control Panel". In the "Devices and Printers" section of the "Devices" tab, find the image of your computer and right-click on it. Next, in the drop-down list, find "Bluetooth settings", and tick "Allow Bluetooth devices to detect this computer."

Sure, now connecting bluetooth will not be a big problem for you!
