How to put a laptop in sleep mode

You can put your laptop into sleep mode in various ways. For example, set up an automatic transition if no actions are taken for some time. For laptops, this mode is most relevant, since their main advantage is mobility, and the disadvantage is the limited battery charge. Therefore, you need to save energy.

A way to enable hibernation on a laptop

You can put "sleep mode" on the keyboard. Why use one of the keys F1-12, where the sign "Zz" is drawn. A "sleep" is activated by simultaneously pressing Fn + F1-F12.

To go programmatically, you need to go to the "Start", click "Shutdown" and find "Hibernate". This item may not be. To add it, you need to do the following:

  1. Go to the "Control Panel".
  2. Find the item "Large icons", click "Power".
  3. Then "Power Key Action".
  4. Select "Change Settings."
  5. Check the box next to "Hibernate", save.

The corresponding function will be in the "Shutdowns" menu.

Sleep Setting

To fine-tune the "sleep", as well as to eliminate frequently occurring problems, you need to set certain parameters. Why you need to select "Change power settings."

In the window, you need to open the first branch, where the name "Power" is present (usually it is "Balanced Power") and set the parameter "Enter password upon waking up". If you don’t want to type the password all the time, click “Refuse”.

Then go to the "Sleep" menu, then "Set activation timers." That is, different events that will bring the PC out of sleep mode without user intervention. For example, the OS will start updating or the "Task Scheduler" will start working. All these parameters are manually configured, but users often forget about them, so the "sleep" of the laptop will be "disturbed." In order not to look for these events, you just need to set the status to "Off" and all system timers will be ignored.

By and large, the basic parameters of "Sleep" are made, and other settings most often do not need to be touched. But you can experiment with other parameters.

In addition to software events, the cause may be connected equipment. As a rule, this is a mouse, keyboard, USB port activation, charger. If you do not want the laptop to “wake up” after accidentally hitting a mouse or pressing a button, you need to make the following settings.

Go to the "Task Manager" menu and open the "Keyboard". Right-click on the "HID Keyboard" and click on "Properties".

In the new window, find "Power Management." Uncheck the box next to the line "Allow equipment to wake the PC from sleep" and save. Follow the same procedure for the mouse in the corresponding section "Mice".

When to turn on sleep mode does not work

Why does the laptop not go into sleep mode? If the PC does not go into sleep, you need to check the power settings, namely the wake-up timers. In "Start" in the line "Run", specify powercfg.cpl, then click "Configure the power scheme."

Then we click "Change settings", in the new window we open "Sleep", we find the item "Allow wake-up timers" and select off.

One of the reasons for not being able to switch to "sleep" is the connected equipment (USB devices, speakers, etc.). To determine which devices are simple, you need to type the command powercfg-devicequery wake_armed. And turn off their independent actions.

By and large, the causes of malfunctions are much greater, and they are often caused directly by the operating system. Moreover, this applies to software, so you need to be careful and download software from official sites.
